challenge
Students often struggle with navigating an unfamiliar city, and building social connections—all while managing tight budgets and cultural adjustments.
Balancing these varied requirements in a single platform required thoughtful prioritization of features like interactive navigation and social networking tools.
The design had to remain intuitive and accessible for a wide range of users, from local to international students, while aligning with Glasgow City Council’s vision of promoting the city’s vibrant student life.
process
As a new student in Glasgow myself, I drew from my own experiences and those of others through surveys, empathy maps, and competitor analysis to understand these struggles from multiple perspectives.
Using these insights, I designed and refined prototypes, ensuring the app was intuitive and genuinely helpful for students navigating a new city.
Outcome
By combining essential features like personalized dining recommendations, interactive city navigation, and tailored event suggestions, the app addresses the practical and social needs of its users.
It also includes social networking features to foster connections and create a sense of community among students.
With its user-friendly design and focus on inclusivity, Glasflow offers students a one-stop platform to explore the city, manage daily tasks, and connect with others.
